Last week we were investigating volume, science and instructions all by making Traffic Light Jelly!
Miss Lyall set us a challenge to re-create a Traffic Light Jelly just like the ones that she made.
We had to find out the volume of several different cups.
At first we weren't quite sure how to measure the volume - we tried to use our rulers and the measuring cup ruler.
After a bit of problem solving we worked out that the volume = the space
inside the cup and if we used water to fill the cup we could measure
the water.
Then we had to work out how much jelly we would need to make each layer of our Traffic Light - this was tricky because we had to calculate 500 divided by 3! See if you can work that out, with out using a calculator!
We also had to find out how much it would cost to make our Traffic Light jelly.
Tobey, Samantha and Samuel had the clever idea of looking up on a supermarket website for the price. They also thought about looking for a variety of jelly prices so they could find the cheapest price.
After ALL that thinking and working out, we finally got to make our Traffic Lights - lots more measuring and thinking was involved in that.
At long last we had our completed Traffic Light Jellies!
