Kowhai Room have been learning this year about being responsible for their own learning and how to work independently in class time.
This term our newest step is to be in charge of organising our own daily timetable.
Each morning we come in to school and check the big class timetable to see what is happening for the day.
Then we get our Goal/Timetable book and fill in any workshops that Miss Lyall has booked us in for. Next we check the Must Do list for the day and decide when we are going to do each of the tasks on the list. The great thing is that we get to choose when in the day we do each task so if we like to read straight after lunch we do it then or if we like to write first thing in the morning we can do it then!
Usually we have to make sure that we have done at least 1 session of Read to Self, 1 session of Writing and 1 session of our topic study. Our maths work happens when we go to our maths groups with Room 4 and we all get mixed up between Mrs Dawson, Miss Hubbard and Miss Lyall.
If we have completed the Must Dos for the week we can choose from the Can Dos list, and if we make sure that we have finished everything by Friday morning we get free choice time between 9 and 10. If we haven't we use that time to catch up and finish off.
Today we reflected on how our new timetables have been going, using our Twitter reflection forms - we are only allowed to use 140 characters so we have to think carefully about what we want to say.
Have a look at what we thought - leave us a comment!
